Country Roads, Take Me Home
Every summer, from the time I was 8 years old, I attended Camp Tawonga, a reform Jewish sleep away camp right outside of Yosemite National Park. My childhood and young adulthood, was shaped by the river, the redwoods, and the incredible friendships from Tawonga.
When I read the article Welcome Back to Camp Tawonga! , written by the brilliant writer, Steve Almond, my camp memories flooded my sketchbooks. It was then, that I decided to adapt his article into a story about a nervous father “Adam” dropping his young daughter “Jenni” off at sleep away camp for the first time.
“Camp was a place where kids went to enlarge their sense of possibility,
a sacred ground reserved for the creation of personal myths.”
