The Mountain of Should

Brady Gill’s modern fable, “The Mountain of Should” is a story of resilience and self-acceptance, opening our hearts to what it means to be human. Alongside an all female team of artists at RogueMark Studios, I took on the role of Art Director and Lead Animator.

Through the magic of animation I lead a our team at RogueMark Studios to bring Brady’s words to life. Each frame is drawn by hand in Photoshop. Animator Marisa Rafter, stitched together the hand drawn animation and added some After Effects magic in post production.

When developing the look and feel of the animation, I looked to artists like Ben Shahn, Shel Silverstein, and Charles Schulz. The rough, simple, and heartfelt style elevated the humanity and vulnerability of the story.

In Spring of 2019, “The Mountain of Should” was nominated to be shown at the Alt Summit Conference in Palm Springs.

Before jumping into animation, I storyboarded the entire short and created a map of how the film would look.
